NEW YORK – A Manhattan grand jury on Thursday decided to indict former President Donald J. Trump for his part in paying hush money to a porn star. This is a historic decision that will impact the 2024 presidential race and mark him as the first former president of the United States to be charged with a crime.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office filed the sealed criminal indictment, and it is anticipated to be made public soon. At that time, Mr. Trump will have been requested to appear before an arraignment by the district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, on charges that have not yet been made public.
Trump will be fingerprinted and photographed. He may even be handcuffed.
Many sources say that Mr. Trump and his team were caught off guard by the news. They believed that the case was on hold. Trump even celebrated at a rally in Waco, Texas, over the weekend: “I think they’ve already dropped the case,” he said to cheers from his supporters.
Trump’s lawyers confirmed that the former president has been indicted and said they’ll “vigorously fight” the indictment.
Trump himself released a statement, calling the indictment “political persecution.”
“This is political persecution and election interference at the highest level in history.”
I believe this witch hunt will backfire massively on Joe Biden. “The American people realize exactly what the radical left Democrats are doing here.” Trump said.
Trump is anticipated to turn himself in to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office early next week, according to his lawyer Joe Tacopina.
Trump’s legal team has spoken to the prosecutors already and anticipates that he will be arraigned the following week.
