Internet Pranked with Fake “DeSantis for President” FEC Filing

A recent filing on the Federal Election Commission’s website led some to believe that the Republican Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, had secretly filed with the FEC on April 8 for the presidency as a Republican in 2024. Red flags, however, indicate that the statement of candidacy form is phony.

The “principal campaign committee” reportedly went by the name “Desantis For President Committee” without the capital “S” in the name “DeSantis.”

The fact that the address provided is a Florida government facility is another clear indicator that it is a phony. Additionally, according to the “filing,” he chose South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as his Vice President, despite the fact that VP selections are typically made closer to the national convention, which will take place in July 2024.
