US Conducts Airstrikes in Syria, Response to Deadly Attack on US Contractor by Iranian Drone

A U.S. contractor died and five service members were injured when an unmanned drone hit a maintenance facility in northeastern Syria.

President Biden then authorized precision airstrikes against IRGC-affiliated facilities in eastern Syria in response to the attack. The drone strike occurred at a Coalition base near Hasakah around 1:38 p.m. local time.

The airstrikes were also a response to recent attacks against Coalition forces by groups associated with the IRGC.

Two of the injured service members received treatment at the attack site, while the other three and the injured contractor were evacuated to Iraq for treatment.

The Department of Defense released this information in a statement on Thursday evening.
